Our Mission

The mission of every church has been laid out by the Lord Jesus Christ before he ascended to heaven when He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

This means that we must dedicate all that we do as a church to three main priorities:

  1. Go bear witness to everyone in the world that Jesus has provided the way of peace between man and God through His perfect life, death, and resurrection. We do this in the confidence that Jesus has the authority to command this, and that we have authority as His ambassadors to preach this gospel.

  2. Baptize all who are Christ’s disciples into the church. This speaks of the necessity for committed church membership and the necessary connection between being in Christ and part of the body (His church).

  3. Teach all of Christ’s disciples how to live the Christian life. We have been given new hearts, and this allows the ministry of the Word to transform our minds through the renewal of the mind in conformity to Jesus Christ.

At Covenant Baptist Church, it is our mission to accomplish these commands through emphasizing:

  1. The preaching of the Word expositionally and fearlessly

  2. Discipling one another and cultivating evangelism and courage to be “Ambassadors for Christ” making our appeals on behalf of our King

  3. Praying for courage, peace, and the urgency to live holy lives that show our reverence and gratitude to God

  4. Loving one another by living as a community who speaks truthfully, meets the needs of one another, and urging one another to righteous living

  5. Fearlessly engaging culture to spread the Word of Christ so that through our words, many might hear and be convicted of sin so that they would repent and become disciples

Our Vision

Our vision at Covenant Baptist Church is to be a church that becomes a replicating church. We desire to train and develop qualified men into eldership so that we can joyfully commission and support new churches emphasizing Northwest Arkansas first, but eventually extending the vision to the ends of the earth.

We believe this to be the pattern of the New Testament Apostolic churches who appointed elders and went from city to city starting new churches.

We must be a church who is faithful to God’s Word, intense in our prayer and discipleship, and dedicated to the mission of discipling the nations. We believe firmly that the church is the primary method by which God has and will continue to build His kingdom.

FAQs of Theology

  • Reformed Theology is broadly defined as the doctrines that formed the foundation of the Protestant Reformation of the 1500s. In simplest terms, Reformed Theology holds to the “Five Solas”.

  • Sola Scriptura (meaning “Scripture Alone”): God’s inspired Word is our inerrant, sufficient, and final authority for the church.

Sola Gratia (meaning “Grace Alone”): Salvation is a gift that comes only from God’s grace to sinners, whom he has elected before the beginning of the world).

Sola Fide (meaning “Faith Alone”): Saving faith is the resulting belief that God gives His elect that is necessary for salvation.

Solus Christus (meaning “Christ Alone”): Salvation and the power of the Christian life is found only in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Soli Deo Gloria (meaning “For the Glory of God Alone”): All of God’s work in humankind is solely for the purpose of bringing Himself glory.

  • Calvinism is shorthand for a belief system about salvation that emphasizes God’s divine decree as the only means by which we are saved. This can also be called monergism which means that God alone saves us and we contribute nothing to our salvation.

The five distinctive beliefs of Calvinism are easily remembered through the acronym T.U.L.I.P.

    T: Total Depravity
    U: Unconditional Election
    L: Limited Atonement
    I: Irresistible Grace
    P: Perseverance of the Saints

Essentially, man never seeks salvation because he is in rebellion against his creator. God elects to save some based on His own good pleasure. Christ’s work on the cross is fully effective for the elect. God’s calling to the elect cannot be resisted and those whom He has saved will persevere in salvation until death.

  • Covenantal Theology refers to the system of beliefs regarding God’s interaction with humans being understood through His covenants. These covenants are enduring and are working with each other to fully reveal God’s plan for His people.

These are the six covenants of Scripture: Adamic, Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, Davidic, and the New Covenant of Jesus.

The New Covenant is not a replacement of the five prior, but instead, a fulfillment and extension of their promises to God’s people.

  • Confessions are time-tested proclamations of the historic church that connect our faith and doctrine to those who came before us. They are guardrails against false-teaching and heresy.

We hold to the London Baptist Confessional of 1689 because it encapsulates the historic doctrines of Reformed Baptists.

  • Simply put, a Baptist is any Christian who believes in a baptism by immersion upon a profession of faith. Baptist is not a denomination, but a belief about the proper administration of the ordinance of baptism.
